Reunion after 27 years!

Wednesday, 5th January
Helmut, Malita, Ian, Sue and Hazel

I spent the morning washing clothes and making a chicken stew for our visitors.
Malita
Joseph arrived at noon with Malita, accompanied by grandchildren, Hazel (pronounced Hayzl, not Hahzl as Malita & Rose always said it when she was small) and Ian.  Rose had stayed behind in Kapsabet with her youngest daughter.  It was so good to see them again!  Malita looked just the same as I remembered, but shrunk considerably both in height and girth.  She was dressed in her Sunday best and smiling from ear to ear.  Hazel is a stunning looking young woman; very sophisticated and poised as well as warm and friendly.  No wonder her job is as a customer service agent at the insurance company where she works.

…..and they came bearing gifts, which put our small tokens to shame.  We had decided it was probably better to give them money than things, but I wished I’d brought something better than we did for them!
Ian we had never met before.  He is named Ian Andrew, after Andrew Trueman.  He lives with his sister, who supports the entire family, and is unemployed, having had to give up IT courses for lack of funds.  Malita explained to me that she hoped I might be able to find a church in Canada who would like to invest in paying for the education of her grandchildren.  Ian is a talented artist, but he’d like to study computer graphics because one can make a serious living at that.  Hazel wants to go to university to study international affairs and then work for an international company in some sort of administrative capacity.  She already put herself through school to obtain a diploma in customer service and administration.
