Watamu Beach

Friday, 7th January, 2011

View from our room at the Ocean Sports Hotel
I’m sitting on a poolside bed purloined from a small pool near our room, parked on the grass under the shade of a tamarind tree, looking down at the Indian Ocean in front of our room at the Oceans Sports Hotel on Watamu Beach.  If it weren’t for the breeze, the heat and humidity would be awful.  With the breeze and the fact that there is no necessity whatever to move or do anything at all more energetic than strolling down to the sea for a dip, it’s a tropical paradise.

We said goodbye for a few days to Helen, Tim and the children and flew to Malindi this morning from Nairobi.  Elaine and Eric Watts, old friends from when we lived in Nairobi and parents of Helen and her three sisters, joined us for lunch at our hotel soon after we arrived.  It was lovely to see them again, the same as ever except for, like us, being more than a quarter of a century older than when we last saw them, when they took us to the airport on our last evening in Kenya.  We have a lot of years to catch up on over the next few days!

Spot what's different!

Now do you see it?

Time for a dip in the ocean, a swim in the pool and a nap before dinner.
